Initial situation

The tourism sector is one of the most important sectors in Portugal. Cities/City Councils need to have solutions that can help them quantify the tourism benefits, such as having tourist profiles to improve tourism strategies during the year, having statistical reports that can be used to adjust the tourism/cultural offerings according to the tourists profile in order to offer them a greater experience and satisfaction with the services.

The main objectives are to be able to enrich the tourists’ user experience, combat seasonality, promote the city and its inheritance, increase the visibility and the promotion of a region and its entities, and provide integrated solutions to support various tourism sector entities.

Solution

Ubiwhere took the challenge to develop the Virtual Tourist Card solution for visitors, which allows the creation of prepaid visiting packages, the visitors’ automatic recognition and the creation of tourist profile in order to improve the regional tourism strategies.

With that in mind Ubiwhere developed the technological solution, which is capable of:

  • Enrich the tourist user experience, making the visit unique and increasing the degree of loyalty (both in terms of a region/locality – outdoors, as in enclosed spaces, e.g. museums – indoors);
  • Provide every tourist with a set of suggestions/recommendations in a more flexible and independent way, allowing them to enjoy the most of their trip;
  • Increase the visibility and the promotion of a region and its entities with an interest in tourism (including hotel entities, tourist developments, catering services and all commerce in general);
  • Improve the access to cultural activities such as museums and cultural centres;
  • Combat the decrease in the number of foreign overnights with greater purchasing power (specifically, in its main destinations in Portugal – Lisbon and Algarve);
  • Combat seasonality;
  • Provide integrated solutions to support various tourism sector entities (catering, hotels, retail, car rental, travel agencies, among others);
  • Get feedback that can be used to adjust the tourism/cultural offerings to the tourists profile in order to offer them a greater experience and satisfaction.

  • Creation of prepaid business packages;
  • Make reservations and payments in a simple, fast and smart way;
  • Can be integrated in the guides for mobile devices.

For tourism entities & destination marketing organisations

  • Automatic identification of the tourist;
  • Statistical reports;
  • Establishment of tourist profiles, based on the statistics produced that will support the definition of a tourist region strategy.
